Plant Cells Vs Animal Cells Essay

Plant and animal cells have several differences and similarities. For example, animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts but plant cells do. Animal cells are round and irregular in shape while plant cells have fixed, rectangular shapes.

Both kinds of cells contain a nucleus – which can also be known as the “brains” or the “control centre” of the cell. The nucleus of a cell contains most of its genetic material and is responsible for controlling all of the cell’s activities through gene expression.

The “powerhouse” or the “energy generators” of both plant and animal cells are the mitochondria. These substances convert the sugar and other organic molecules in the cell to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate) – required as a source of energy for the chemical reactions of a cell.
